Definition (English)
A proper noun is the specific name of a particular person, place, organization, or thing. (Proper noun হলো কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, স্থান, প্রতিষ্ঠান বা বস্তুর নাম।)
A proper noun always begins with a capital letter. (Proper noun সবসময় বড় হাতের অক্ষর দিয়ে শুরু হয়।)
Examples:
Rahim lives in Dhaka. (রহিম ঢাকায় থাকে।)
The Padma is a famous river. (পদ্মা একটি বিখ্যাত নদী।)
I read the Quran every day. (আমি প্রতিদিন কুরআন পড়ি।)
Kinds of Proper Noun (Proper Noun-এর ধরন)
1. Names of Persons (ব্যক্তির নাম)
Karim (করিম)
Rabindranath Tagore (রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর)
Ayesha (আয়েশা)
Example:
Ayesha is a student. (আয়েশা একজন ছাত্রী।)
2. Names of Places (স্থানের নাম)
Dhaka (ঢাকা)
Bangladesh (বাংলাদেশ)
Asia (এশিয়া)
Example:
Bangladesh is a beautiful country. (বাংলাদেশ একটি সুন্দর দেশ।)
3. Names of Rivers, Seas, Mountains, etc. (নদী, সমুদ্র, পাহাড় ইত্যাদির নাম)
The Padma (পদ্মা)
The Bay of Bengal (বঙ্গোপসাগর)
Mount Everest (মাউন্ট এভারেস্ট)
Example:

Rules of Proper Noun (Proper Noun-এর নিয়ম)
Rule 1: Capital Letter Rule (বড় হাতের অক্ষর ব্যবহারের নিয়ম)
Every proper noun must begin with a capital letter. (প্রতিটি proper noun বড় হাতের অক্ষর দিয়ে শুরু হবে।)
Example:
karim is my friend. ✘
Karim is my friend. ✔ (করিম আমার বন্ধু।)
Rule 2: No Article before Most Proper Nouns (সাধারণত Article ব্যবহৃত হয় না)
We do not usually use “a” or “an” before proper nouns. (Proper noun-এর আগে সাধারণত “a” বা “an” বসে না।)
Example:
He is a Rahim. ✘
He is Rahim. ✔ (সে রহিম।)
Rule 3: Use of “The” with Some Proper Nouns (“The” ব্যবহারের নিয়ম)
“The” is used before names of rivers, seas, oceans, mountain ranges, holy books, newspapers, and some countries. (“The” নদী, সমুদ্র, মহাসাগর, পর্বতমালা, ধর্মগ্রন্থ, পত্রিকা এবং কিছু দেশের নামের আগে ব্যবহৃত হয়।)

The United States (যুক্তরাষ্ট্র)
Rule 4: Proper Noun Used as Common Noun (Proper Noun সাধারণ অর্থে ব্যবহার)
Sometimes a proper noun can be used as a common noun. (কখনো কখনো proper noun সাধারণ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।)
Example:
He is the Newton of our class. (সে আমাদের শ্রেণির নিউটন।)
Rule 5: Apostrophe with Proper Noun (অ্যাপোস্ট্রফি ব্যবহার)
To show possession, add ’s to a singular proper noun. (একবচন proper noun-এর মালিকানা বোঝাতে ’s যোগ হয়।)
